Why Outsource Bookkeeping ?

There are several reasons why one would want to outsource the accounting & bookkeeping functions. Depending on individual cases some or all the reasons may apply.

1. The cost of Accounting/bookkeeping

The cost advantage is simply the most basic reason. It stems from economic rationality. A lot of people know of the outsourcing practices of the big business corporations, but somehow don’t apply it to their own business. We tend to think “They are big corporations. They outsource because it involves huge savings to the tune of millions of dollars. Mine is only a small/medium business. Outsourcing would only save me a few hundred or a few thousand dollars. Why bother so much.” A dollar saved is a dollar earned. In this age of competition no business can afford the luxury of higher costs.

2. Resource optimization

Not able to spare the time or the resources to handle this function of the business is also one reason. As accounting & bookkeeping is an ancillary function, time or resources spent on it would be more rewarding and fruitful if spent on the main business function may it be sales, marketing, product development or any such function that is applicable.

3. Outsourcing as a business model

If one is a bookkeeper or an accountant himself, the outsourcing of the accounting & bookkeeping can also be a business model. In this way he is able to serve and add on more clients. Of course, this is only possible where the bookkeeper / accountant is able to charge the client more that what he is paying; which may be monetary or in terms of other services pro
